Hides in the shadows with no hope for tomorrow,
He avoids his own reflection because
He is afraid of its youthful lesson;
He cowers and shakes,
For the pain he can no longer take,
He cries and screams
While he runs from his dreams,
He desperately wants to live
While denying his earthly gift –
I contemplate my uncle
On a humid summer night,
A man with profound genius
And tortured by immense pain,
The collective war insanity
That erased his very name –
So sick that he’s ill,
So ill that he’s sick –
Endless obsessions and compulsions
That makes his mind frantically tick –
But he’s no different from you or me –
He’s just a voluntary prisoner
That cannot see –
The voices are not his and the choices
Are not theirs,
Lost to his own chatter
He cannot find his true words –
I see the glimmer in your eyes
That occasionally set you free,
If only you break these bad habits,
You’d spread your wings and see –
It’s the beauty that gracefully flies
As life’s lesson never dies –
I wish you peace,
I wish all peace,
But the light in my head has grown dim,
Maybe I’ll find you
Living the life that you deserve to live
In the light of the telescope
To the stars,
To the infinite love
That you thought you couldn’t give –
To bed with my words,
With my leather-bound book,
And her truth speaks,
Another moment it took.
